Fumaria is closely related to Corydalis and many botanists combine the two in one genera.  Like Corydalis, Fumaria is in the papavercae family and like many plants in this family, Fumaria has some interesting constituents:

Protopine, cryptopine, dl-bicuculline, aldumine, fumaridine, fumarizine, spiroisoquinoline and d-hydrastine, parfumidine, parfumine, coptisine, tetrahydrocoptisine, fumariline, fumarilicine, narceimine, 8-methoxydihydrosanguinarine, oxysanguinarine, fumariflorine, lastourvilline, N-methyl corydaldine, oxycoptisine, raddeanine, N -methyl-hydrasteine, dehydrocheilanthifoline, narlumidine, papraine and paprazine.

It has been shown to have analgesic activity in animal studies which is thought to be attributed by the presence of fumariline, narceimine, narlumidine and adlumidine 

It also contains an alkaloid which has anti-psychotic activity similar to chlorpromazine.  Lastly, it has been shown to have hypotensive activity due to its protopine content.
