Selfheal (Self Heal) also called Heal-All can be used as an herbal remedy for minor throat ailments by making a tea and gargling. The tea is also used to treat diarrhea and fevers internally and wounds ulcers soars and bruises. The Chinese have traditionally used the tea and the decoction to treat kidney ailments conjunctivitis boils heat in the liver and scrofula. Research supports the idea that Heal-All does posses antibiotic hypotensive and anti-mutagenic qualities. The plant does contain ursolic acid which is a diuretic and an ant-tumor compound. Grieve's classic 'A Modern Herbal': Astringent styptic and tonic. Self-Heal is still in use in modern herbal treatment as a useful astringent for inward or outward use. An infusion of the herb made from 1 oz. to a pint of boiling water and taken in doses of a wineglassful is considered a general strengthener. Sweetened with honey it is good for a sore and rel31d throat or ulcerated mouth for both of which purposes it also makes a good gargle. For internal bleeding and for piles the infusion is also used as an injection. http://my.webmd.com/content/article/65/72562.htm Prunella vulgaris Reduces Cold Sores and Lesions in Animals By Jennifer Warner Reviewed By Brunilda Nazario MD on Monday May 19 2003 May 19 2003 - An experimental herpes treatment derived from an herb known as Prunella vulgaris may one day help prevent and treat both types of the herpes virus that cause cold sores and genital herpes. Researchers say preliminary tests show mice and guinea pigs treated with the herb developed significantly fewer of the cold sores and genital sores or lesions associated with herpes than untreated animals. The results of the study were presented today at the 103rd General Meeting of the American Society for Microbiology in Washington D.C. ''Prunella vulgaris [also known as self heal] is a perennial plant found in China the British Isles Europe and North America '' says researcher Song Lee of the Dalhousie University in Halifax Canada in a news release. ''P. vulgaris has been described as a hot water infusion to treat sores in the mouth and throat as an astringent for internal and external purposes as a crude anti-cancer drug and as an herbal remedy to lower high blood pressure.'' In the study researchers created a topical cream containing a compound derived from Prunella vulgaris and tested it on mice and guinea pigs infected with an experimental version of the herpes simplex virus-1 and herpes simplex-2 typically known as genital herpes. Researchers found that mice infected with herpes type 1 who received the herbal herpes treatment were significantly less likely to die of their disease than untreated mice. And guinea pigs infected with herpes type 2 and treated with the cream developed much fewer skin lesions than those who did not receive treatment. Laboratory tests also showed that Prunella vulgaris has a different type of anti-herpes action than currently available treatment such as Zovirax (acyclovir). ''Given the high incidence of herpes infection and the emergence of acyclovir-resistant strains of herpes viruses the [experimental herbal herpes treatment] may prove to be a useful new anti-herpes drug '' says Lee. This is 2's nitrogen-flushed vacuum pack. Plum Flower is one of the most distinguished herb houses in the world. Sulfur Free Chlorine Free Aluminum Phosphate Free. Sulfites are used to give herbs the appearance of freshness. As with dried fruit unsulfured herbs look different than those that are adulterated with preservatives. Herbs that are preservative free are more natural looking and are generally darker. The brightness of the herbs may be appealing but it indicates the presence of harmful additives. Despite their appearance unsulfured herbs are more fresh and safer than regular commercially available products. The use of sulfur chlorine and aluminum phosphate was made unnecessary through the establishment of Plum Flower processing stations in China. Herb harvesters slice and process the herbs fresh avoiding the need to rehydrate dried herbs later to process. This first step is crucial as rehydration leads to decomposition and thus the need for preservatives. The herbs are then packed and the packages vacuum-packed injected with nitrogen and sealed. The nitrogen process combined with the lack of sulfur treatment inhibits the growth of anaerobic organisms resulting in safer higher quality herbs. After opening store in a cool dry place. The facilities in Lanzhou and Guang Zhou China scientifically test each batch of herbs before during and after the processing to make sure that all the active ingredients are present. Herbs are also tested to ensure that the formulas surpass all FDA guidelines regarding heavy metals. Those herbs exported to the U.S. are voluntarily submitted to the FDA for approval. Finally batches are regularly sent out for quality control testing in third-party labs to double-ensure that Plum Flower products are 100% free of pharmaceuticals preservatives and dyes. The Lanzhou and Guang Zhou factories are so clean they are certified by the Australian Government’s Therapeutic Goods Administration (GMP). These standards surpass any of the FDA and are considered the highest for any government agency in the world.
