L-Arginine (also known as 2-Amino-5-guanidinovaleric acid) is one of the essential amino acids. It plays a vital role in the production of the following compounds: Nitric oxide, creatine, polyamines, L-glutamate, L-proline, agmatin and the tetrapeptide tuftsin. It is mainly produced in the kidneys but also in small amounts from the liver.
