The foliage is high quality fresh foliage that has been de-stemmed. Very similar in action to the Mexican Prickly Poppy, (argemone mexicana "chicalote"). This plant has been traditionally used in native american medicine as an anesthetic for surgery; It has been used to treat cancer, the common cold, fever, inflammation, and toothache. This poppy's chemical constituents include protopine, berberine, and several isoquinilines. It has been ritualistically used as a smudging herb.
